There are many general resources available for today's career builder and job seeker, but few specific helps for the LP/AP career. It is important to be aware of the industry's culture, sensitivities, and values before unknowingly 'harming' a great opportunity.
LP / AP industry specific helps and tips:
LP/AP professionals need to be able to withstand a credit and a background check. It is important to clean up credit history mistakes, outstanding traffic tickets and the like, before applying for that great job. However, there is no need for undue concern, as hiring agents do hire those who have solid explanations and who are working hard to remedy their situation; such as large medical bills.
LP/AP professionals need to demonstrate strong values, ethics, and discretion. Review the LPF's code of ethics, as a 'test', to see if you have the LP/AP mindset. We also suggest a second pass with a close friend. If there is agreement, that you have the mindset, then you can face your interviews with greater confidence as LP/AP hiring professionals look for ethical candidates and are experts in questioning and understanding human behavior.
LP/AP professionals should be in good physical condition. While this is not an absolute, we do advise, that in general, all LP/AP professionals should be physically fit. Alert and fit professionals are better able to keep themselves and others safe and secure.
LP/AP professionals need to have industry professional knowledge as well as localized knowledge. The LPF can help with business industry knowledge, but a career builder must learn local law, local salaries, and local job openings.

Also, before you interview, in our Guides & References section, take time to review several of the Loss Prevention TV videos.
